It can be confusing and heartbreaking to watch a capable, bright child, teen or adult struggle with reading, writing, math, or staying focused. You may hear them say ” I’m just not smart”, refuse to read aloud, avoid certain tasks, loose focus, or become frustrated when something that seems simple takes so much effort. Over time, these daily challenges can lead to frustration, anxiety, or self-doubt–especially when their true ability isn’t being recognized.

Dyslexia and ADHD are recognized as expressions of neurodiversity and reflect a different way the brain processes information, not a lack of intelligence. Many of these learners often process information visually and kinesthetically, grasping ideas most deeply through mental imagery and hands-on, multi-sensory experiences. This picture-based thinking style is also what makes these individuals highly creative, intuitive, and capable problem solvers.

In dyslexia, this way of processing can make working with written symbols more difficult. In ADHD, it can lead to a mind that moves quickly from one thought to another, making focus and consistency harder to maintain. As a result, reading, writing, spelling, math, or verbal expression may feel challenging–not because of low ability, but because traditional teaching methods don’t align with how these minds naturally learn.

When these learning differences are misunderstood, bright individuals may begin to question their abilities or lose confidence. In reality, they simply think differently–and that difference is part of what makes them remarkable.

With the right understanding and support through the Davis® approach, these natural abilities can be developed into real strengths, helping individuals build confidence, independence, and life-long learning skills.

Why Bright Learners Are Struggling with Reading

It can be confusing and heartbreaking to watch a capable, bright child or adult struggle with reading or writing.

Dyslexia isn’t a sign of low intelligence. It’s a different way the brain processes language and symbols — by thinking in pictures and understanding meaning rather than by relying on the sounds of words.

This difference can make reading, writing, spelling, math or even verbal expression more challenging, not because of lack of ability, but because traditional teaching methods don’t align with how dyslexic minds naturally learn.

Dyslexic thinkers process information visually and kinesthetically, grasping ideas most deeply through movement and hands-on, multi-sensory experiences. This creative, picture-based thinking style is what makes many dyslexic individuals exceptional artists, problem solvers, and innovators.

When these learning differences are misunderstood, bright children, teens, or adults may start to doubt their abilities or question their intelligence – but the truth is, they simply think differently, and that difference is part of what makes them remarkable. With the right understanding and support provided by the Davis® approach, those differences become real strengths, helping individuals build confidence and life-long learning skills.

What Our Clients Say

Joanna did a great job in facilitating the ADD program for my 12 year old son. It was really awesome to see how she introduced all these valuable tools that has already started helping him focus more especially at school. We have already started getting such valuable feedback from his teachers in school as to how he’s able to focus better. Mastering the concepts with clay has been really fascinating to watch. I look forward to continue to see these excellent benefits of the Davis ADD program. Thank you Joanna for all your hard work and efforts in working with my son. – Daphne, Florida
I just wanted to say a massive thanks to Joanna, who conducted Davis Dyslexia Correction program and Davis Math program with Julia in spring of 2024.You have the passion for the work and Julia will benefit immensely from the instructions you provided. She enjoyed playing with clay and Koosh balls, making letters and symbols, and going through the reasoning process to help her learn better as a dyslexic and help her succeed. Thank you for your patience and commitment.  – Ela, New York

How The Davis® Method Works

Young woman holds a light bulb drawing against a creative brainstorming wall.

Traditional learning often relies on repetition, memorization, or trying harder —which can be exhausting and frustrating for anyone who thinks and learns in pictures. The Davis Method takes a completely different approach.

Instead of treating your child’s learning style as something that needs to be “fixed”, we embrace their unique natural gifts and put their visual strengths to work for them.

We teach them how to control their focus, recognize when they feel confused, and clear up that confusion at its root cause.

Here is what actually happens during a program and how we do it:

  • Step 1: Mastering Self-Regulation and Focus

First, we teach simple, internal tools to switch focus on and off at will. Through quick, interactive mental exercises, your child learns what it feels like to be focused, calm, and in control of their attention. This gives them a reliable foundation to recognize and correct confusion the moment it starts—whether they are reading, doing math, or managing their energy.

  • Step 2: Hands-On Exploration with Clay

Abstract symbols and ideas—like letters, punctuation, numbers, or life concepts such as Time and Order—are often the root cause of learning frustration. We bring these abstract concepts into the physical world using modeling clay. By building letters, words, numerals, or concepts by hand, your child creates real, lasting mental images that eliminate confusion and build true understanding.

  • Step 3: Real-World Application and Mastery

Once the foundational tools and concepts are in place, we apply them directly to daily life and learning. Through specialized multi-sensory exercises, your child practices reading smoothly, solving math problems, or managing their daily routine with newfound confidence. They leave the program not with temporary workarounds, but with lifelong skills they own and control.

Because the program is hands-on, multi-sensory, and empowering, children don’t just sit and listen to lectures. They move, build, explore, and leave with practical strategies that transform how they learn and navigate the world.
